Bumping bump bump!
This thread is important. It's the first thing published about the overlapping generations. About half a year earlier than it came in the WT.This is internet history!
apparently jack barr, member of the gb, has given a new interpretation of the generation in one of his speaches i.e.
that the generation can apply to those who knew someone who lived in 1914..... will it never end????
it's embarassing!

you know you have been out of the organization for some time when no members of the present governing body were "ruling" during your sojurn.
i have tried to keep up with who is a member and learn a bit about each one.. of the current crop, i find anthony morris iii to be the most grating and irritating to listen to.
who do you find the most annoying?
I think Gerrit Lösch is the longest serving among the present GB, but I'm sure.
When I left Fred franz was president. And yes, Sanderson is some years younger than me! :-)

Hi Data-Dog!
Of course I don't believe you!
I assume you don't believe me.
We are both apostates and thus not trustworthy!
But I do hope that people here have some sence of humour.!
By the way , english is not my nativ language. I probably write like a child or an idiot. It's strange that Outlaw was attacked for his way of expressing himself. But I did not. I am afraid that i sound much more childish!

Hey DOT! Are you still here? Try to calm down. I know this can be hard for you.......sometimes things are what they seem to be.
At least I hope that we , the "terrible apostates" are honest to you. But you are free tos disagree with us! As much as you like. That's the great thing about this site.
Take care, DOT.

"My bad DD I was thinking of someone else at the time of my post. My apologies I guess this isn’t you with your signature ICON. How stupid of me."
That's great Heaven! Maybe DD got a bit offended, I am sure he is happier now afer your apologise.
May I say something to you about Outlaw?? When I first got here I got the impression he was a bit rude. But I have changed my mind, he has a sarcastic sence of humour, I like that, but I have also learned to know that he is a friendly man.
May I just ask if you are an active JW?. I don't bother personally, but I am thinking of D O T. He seems to trust you as an experienced JW. I really hope you are honest to D O T. DOT has been very honest and outspoken to us. Maybe the nicest active pro-JW apologist on the board

"And how can the overlapping teaching be true if it isn't found in Gods Word?.. (referring to criteria 1. I sense that DD is getting peeved that I have taken things off topic. Sorry.)"
The official answer is that it is true beacuse it comes from Gods mouthpiece, his slave-class.
But DOT...I think you are beginning to understand. The real reason is something different........the GB took a risk by publishing such an illogical statement....they must have had good reasons for it.

So God is testing his servants when they have to accept illogical teachings, just like the overlapping generations? And he was testing his organisations lojality during the time when vaccinations and transplants were forbidden? OK, I am sure God is very happy to know that thousands of loyal JWs diedto show their love and loyality to God and his organisation.
And now the loyal jws vill have to accept this histoty of the organisation without feeling disgust for the tragedies mentioned above. Maybe this is a test of the contempories aswell?
But, if it's only a question of loyality, why bother trying to explain such a teaching as the overlapping generations? It could easyly be stated: "Accept what we tell you, we don't have to tell you why you should believe this". That would be a much more effective test.

Yes, Brainfloss, and it makes it possible for the org to hang on to the 1914 teaching.
I know some specualation of 2034. 1914+120 years

"Likewise it is possible to spend valuable time speculating on matters concerning the future. One might ask, In what year will Armageddon begin?...Jehovah has not provided answers at this time. Do you think it wise for Christians to take time from more profitable Bible study to speculate on the answers? Consider the dangers...involves more than saving time. It may save your life...Personal theories can cause division of thought..By setting up hypothetical situations and then speculating..are we not in fact adding to Jehovahs words?..We cannot worship Jehovah in spirit and in truth if our worship is based on speculation. Truth and theory are not synonymous. "
Thank you, DOT. This one is really a gem! Just a few years later the WT-society started that 1975-hype. I am sure this can be something for JW-facts :P
But, to be honest; do you really think that Heavensgate will provide an explanation for the overlapping generatian thats is trustworthy? And, both you and I knows that the overlapping generations is the PRESENT truth......but, do you really think it is the real truth? I know a lot of active JW who think this teaching is ridiculous and that is has to come new light again.

Punk! Yes, that's my point about the bible quotes. But I don't see the need to hammer in that the bible is just fraud....it's better if a believer gets to that cobclusion himself. If you can get a believer to read the bible with new/critical eyes, he will probably realize that christianity started as a apocalyptic dooms-day cult. Lot's of people put their lives on hold (in best case) believing that the end of the world was near. That was tragic then, nd it is tragic in the same way know. But I think that every person has to come to his/her own conclusion.
I think it is important being careful talking to an active JW with doubts. D O T has started thinking, that's great. And he/she has alwas been nice on this board. I see no need to hammer in some TTATTs. Lets try to be polite, I am sure that D O T is honest iin his/her questions.
